Diana T. Yu, MD, MSPH

Dr. Yu is a board-certified
pediatrician who has been in public health practice since
1986. She has served as health officer for Thurston County since 1990,
for Lewis County from 1999 to 2007, and for Mason County since 2005. She is actively
involved in the Washington State Medical Association and just completed
her tenure as the president of the Thurston Mason Medical Society.
Her participation
has been sought by other health care providers, local, state, and
federal governmental health officials in workgroups, committees, and
task forces on numerous issues, including: tuberculosis, drinking water
issues, immunizations, food safety, death review, drug labs, zoonotic
diseases, bioterrorism and emergency preparedness initiatives. Dr. Yu
was appointed by then-Gov. Gary Locke and served on the Governor's
Commission on Early Learning from 1998-2000. She also represents local
public health officials on the Washington State Committee on Homeland
Security.
In 2003, Dr. Yu
obtained a federal grant and started the Thurston County Medical Reserve
Corps, to recruit and train volunteers to serve as surge public health
personnel in times of an emergency or disaster. She regularly authors a
public health column in the local newspaper
