The State Board of Health (Board) adopted a proposed rule on June 9, 2021 to amend chapter 246-680 WAC, Prenatal Tests – Congenital and Heritable Disorders. The amended rule makes updates to the standards of medical necessity when authorizing requests for claims for certain prenatal tests, makes administrative changes, and clarifies language to improve the usability of the rule.
The Board has the authority under RCW 48.21.244, 48.44.344, and 48.46.375 to set forth screening and diagnostic tests as standards of medical necessity for use certain insurers, health care service contractors, and health maintenance organizations when authorizing requests for claims, without the requirement for a case by case determination.
