Board Votes to Establish a PFAS Standard for Group A Public Water Supplies

The Washington State Board of Health (Board) held two rules hearings and heard public testimony on the proposed rulemaking for Group A Public Water Supplies and Drinking Water Laboratory Certification and Data Reporting for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at its October public meeting. Board members adopted the proposed amendments to the rules and directed staff to file orders of adoption (CR-103). In late 2017, the Board accepted a rulemaking petition and filed a preproposal statement of inquiry (CR-101) to consider a drinking water standard for PFAS for Group A Public Water Supplies (Group A rules). The Board filed a CR-101 in February 2020 to consider related revisions to the Drinking Water Laboratory Certification and Data Reporting rule (Lab rules). More information is available on the rulemaking and meeting materials web pages. Recent coverage of the announcement is available on the state Department of Health website.
