Governor Inslee Appoints Jill Wood to State Board of Health

Governor Inslee has appointed Jill Wood to the Washington State Board of Health. Ms. Wood fills the position of an individual with experience in health and sanitation on the 10-member Board.

Ms. Wood is currently the environmental health director for Island County Public Health. She oversees the agency’s environmental public health and natural resource programs that include food, drinking water, on-site sewage systems, shellfish, outdoor burning, land use, surface and ground water quality monitoring and evaluation, salmon recovery, and solid waste, among others.

“We are pleased to welcome Jill to the Board,” said Michelle Davis, executive director of the State Board of Health. “She brings a breadth of experience in local health matters and deep knowledge of environmental health issues that is beneficial to our rulemaking and policy development work.”

Ms. Wood is a board member for the Washington State Association of Local Public Health Officials, serves as a member of the Washington State Environmental Health Directors Committee, represents public health as an Advisory Board Member for the Northwest Clean Air Agency, and actively contributes in public health transformation efforts by participating in Foundational Public Health Services’ committees.

“I’m thrilled and honored with this opportunity,” said Jill Wood. “I look forward to supporting the Board fulfill its leadership role in protecting and improving the public’s health while sharing my passion for environmental health to help improve the health and safety of people living in Washington.”

Ms. Wood is one of four individuals who represent individuals with expertise in health and sanitation on the Board. She has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Prior to her appointment as Island County environmental health director, Ms. Wood was the environmental specialist and civil engineer for Island County.

Ms. Wood’s first meeting will be Wednesday, October 9. The Board will meet at the SeaTac Airport Red Lion Hotel in Seattle from 9:30 a.m. – 3:35 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. Copies of the agenda will be available Wednesday, Sept. 25 on our website.
