Rule Update: Informal Comments Being Accepted for the Notifiable Conditions Permanent Rule

Washington's Notifiable Conditions rule outlines requirements for information that health care providers, health care facilities, laboratories, and other entities must report that is necessary for public health officials to protect the public's health by tracking communicable diseases and other conditions.

The state Board of Health is seeking feedback on the current working draft of the rule language for the Notifiable Conditions chapter. Review the current draft rule. You may email your comments by December 18 to Kaitlyn Donahoe, Board policy advisor.

Key changes in the current working draft since the rule was last filed in June 2020 include: 1) incorporation of patient’s race, ethnicity, and preferred language as reportable data components, and 2) editorial changes for clarity and usability. These changes have been highlighted using tracked changes in the document. Information on all proposed revisions to the chapter and the impacts the regulated community can be found on the state Department of Health's Notifiable Conditions rulemaking web page.

The Notifiable Conditions permanent rule is different from the Notifiable Conditions COVID-19 Reporting emergency rule. Find more information about the emergency rule on its web page.
